What courses are available through the ACPWH?

The Association recognises two accredited post-graduate programmes. Completion of the Post-Graduate Certificate in either programme entitles Chartered Physiotherapists to apply for full membership of ACPWH.

Details of the courses follow:

1. University of Bradford Post Graduate Certificate: Physiotherapy in Women's Health.

This postgraduate certificate offers the physiotherapist a range of opportunities to develop theoretical knowledge relevant to their role in Women's Health and the chance to extend and enhance their clinical practice. This award will be of benefit to physiotherapists working in the specialty of Women's Health in a variety of health care settings. This is currently the only programme of its kind in the UK offering this specialist area of study.

The award of Postgraduate Certificate: Physiotherapy in Women's Health requires successful completion of the two 20 credit core modules and a further 20-Credit module from a choice available within the School of Health Studies . The award forms part of the MSc Rehabilitation Studies programme. It is possible to extend study and undertake additional modules towards the award of MSc Rehabilitation Studies. Students who have completed other University courses in the last 5 years may have them considered in order to APEL marks to contribute to this Masters programme.

These 2 modules at 20 'M' level credits each, are validated at the University of Bradford in conjunction with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Women's Health (ACPWH) and are completed over an extended academic semester.

The two core modules will consist of theoretical and practical components. These will be delivered in residential blocks and in an appropriate clinical setting when necessary together with guided distance learning. The work-based learning component comprises 150 hours of clinical practice, which will include the assessment, examination and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal problems related to pregnancy and continence dysfunction in the clinical setting together with visits to specialist clinics, for example ante-natal clinic and gynaecology out-patient clinics. Each student will be allocated a clinical mentor.

The assessment process involves submission of written work, a presentation and practical exams.
